Uzes - the oldest and premier Duchy in France, is a medieval hill town situated 6kms from the house, 30km from Avignon and 20km from Nimes. Ideally situated in beautiful countryside, its narrow, shaded streets, lead into the Place aux Herbs, the hub of the town, where people sit and relax in the cafes and restaurants which abound, and where, on Saturday mornings, the most superb market draws people from far and wide. The scents and aromas of Provence make a visit an unforgettable experience. Fresh cheeses from the Marseille, melons from nearby Cavaillon, local apricots, cherries etc are all on sale. Not to mention the olives and the herbs. The shops are a pleasure and stock many delicacies, wines and crafts of the area.

Wander down little back streets to discover the hidden treasures there. Discover the antique shops, the Medieval Garden, the Cathedral, the Castle and the 12th Century Fenestrelle Tower. Enjoy the musical evenings in July, the garlic fair, the wine fair and the activities that this lively sophisticated little town has to offer. I can assure you that it does not lack atmosphere. These friendly people make sure that their visitors enjoy and appreciate their area.
